Desk - Art Deco and embossing

On the wooden plank is an art deco test piece that I've been developing. I want to teach the students how to do chasing and repoussé, but I want the process to be visibly intriguing as well.The idea is to use an architectural detail and to shape the piece of wood accordingly.The piece of wood can then be exhibited as well.

The department is participating in an art deco exhibition which is part of the UIA, and this is one way integrating external activities into the curriculum.

The sheets of steel plate lying in front are from cool drink cans that are being up-cycled. I have this idea about using thin sheets of metal for my embossings.

Looking promising...if not amazing! 

A cutout Jasmyn leaf  embossed onto a recycled cold drink can. This is a test piece to see  whether it would work and what it would look like. I wanted to see what the contrast would look like when the embossed bit is sanded clean and how much pressure is required to emboss the steel.

I quite like the remnants of the burnt ink... I think it can be used quite nicely to generate content. Maybe if I planned the way that I cut the can a bit better.

Stripy underpants...

These scadoxii have stripy under parts...just like the mannikins....and this note might be the start of a slow hunch...

Colour Test pieces

Here I am testing the colours I have not printed yet, just to check what they look like. And, of course, I couldn't just test them. I had to find an appropriate image to use, so I then designed this scorpion - which comes from a potter's signature, that stuck in my mind from when I was a student, and the memory of a scorpion in Thomas's bath just recently. Combine all this with my preoccupation with the 'sting/heart' and something is bound to happen (soon).

I quite like the imperfect yellow print. Now just to work out how to do it deliberately.
