Dragon fly eco print

I used the red beech leaves I picked up from the Palmiet to do this print. I forgot about it in the press, and should really experiment a bit more as the colours are much nicer than before when I pressed for about 1 to 2 minutes only.

I want to do more than just print leaves and am looking what else to do with this technique... hence the 'dragonfly' which started using for my Masters (in 1992, 30 years ago!)

Dragonfly jewellery at the Beijing International Jewellery exhibition

 I participated in the Beijing International Jewelry exhibition again in 2019. My previous participation was in 2017 when I was a guest of BIFT.

It was difficult to take a picture of the jewellery and my face due to the lighting so it looks like there is no jewellery in the showcase!

The jewellery!

The jewellery consisted of titanium dragonfly fibulae, two dragonlfy brooches made from recycled plastic bottlecaps, and a dragonfly brooch made from a White Stinkwood stick and plastic cable ties.

The photo above shows a view of my jewellery through the transparent lablel that was used on each showcase. It has the stick and cable tie brooch on the left.

A swarm of dragonflies

On my kitchen table, ready to go

I entered this swarm of dragonflies for the Contemporary Jewellery Awards. They are based on jewels I made for my Masters, way back in 1992/3. These are more selectively Anodised with silver details where the ‘sting’ should be. The photo was taken on our kitchen table.

A dragonfly in my office

Songezo bought a dragonfly model for me in Cape Town. Here it is sitting on top of a tray of gemstones because I don't quite know where to put it. I think my office is too full now and some culling/sorting needs to happen. It will, of course, raise the issue of what is important and what not, but that is what is required.

Too many things have been squatting on the desk for too long. I think everything on the back half can be stored, as they have not been used for a while now. I should probably look into  using the file organising system that I came across recently, where the most-often used artifacts is put in front and everything else migrates to the back.

D'fly embossings

These embossings were done on a test sheet of blue foil prints that, I thought, had not worked. Probably because I had expectations that were not met... Marlene W thought they looked good, which made me reconsider... I think I get too caught up in expectations... I probably start off with none... Which I'm not sure is possible... but it could be

From long ago... I wanted a dragonfly shape to pierce ..So I made some using my chinese ink and brushwork, like I did for my Masters.

Dragonfly?!

Being reminded of my student days and what my studio used to look like... a 'mess' which favoured/caused serendipity to occur... In this case the Kiepersol cut-out was lying around and seemed to fit nicely into the gap between the plates... and to fit the whole 'feminine - life force / coming out/going down ... notion that seems to be niggling at me...

Next mboss

Dragonfly... Piercing out a dragonfly so that I can have the 'remnants' the pieces around the object, with which to frame/show the shape that I am actually working with. And then playing around, re-arranging the pieces in an interesting way, in a way that 'tells a story'.... in this case of emrging, growing, developing, coming out of.....
