Skotnes

One of my final 'Skotnes' prints for Artspace. It is supposed to showtwo heads talking to each other and the lizard in between alludes to the 'shape' of conversations between two people... or is it the conversation between one's two halves?... I devloped the aluminium frames specially for these prints...

So many decisions are made while making something... Here I am trying to decide how much space the prints need around them... or what the implication is if there is seemingly too little of it.

A Skotnes print busy happening. I am obviously happy with this one, which is why it is being captured... It is useful to look at a photo to see what it looks like... The photo provides a little more 'distance' so I can be less sujective...

Skotnes

The Skotnes artwork I decided to work with for the Artspace exhibition 'Inspirations'. It was not the work I chose, rather the artist. Cecil Skotnes's son, John, is a good frien of mine. Every year when I visit John, during my gemmology workshop at CPUT, I see all the Skotnesses in his flat and am very taken by them... hence the desire to work with Skotnes. I see so much in his images... he had the abiltiy to reduce human features to motifs/signs/symbbols that were easily 'digested'... at least by me...

Medals on Cecil's paper

These two were done on some paper that John Skotnes gave to me. He found it in his dad's studio and thought that I might like it... and I do! It is not white, which allows the white ribbon to show better than on the other papers that I have been using.

I started with the damaged/folded corner so that I would not feel so precious about the paper that I would become immobilised.... and it worked!
